A Little Birthday Party for Laura Ingalls Wilder

I decided to throw a little birthday for our beloved Laura Ingalls. We wore our pioneer bonnets and partied hard!

I love creating little everyday magical moments with my two daughters. It was a simple but sweet afternoon. I encourage all the mamas to create core memories surrounding authors and your favorite books.

Who is Laura Ingalls?

Laura Elizabeth Ingalls Wilder was an American Pioneer author. She wrote the bestselling Little House children’s books series, which are about her childhood experiences in the mid 1800’s. Laura published her first book at 65 years old! Isn’t that so amazing! There are so many lessons to be learned in her books. Laura faced many hardships but still remained faithful and was determined to live on the prairie. She was a courageous and self- reliant girl, something I pray my daughters will be in this life.

As a mother, I really look up to her “Ma.” She was resourceful and made a beautiful life for her and her family with the few resources she had. She definitely was happy and content with her life. She was also very kind and patient (which, let’s be real, I need a lot of lol).

Born February 7, 1867. Died February 10, 1957

Birthday Decorations

We used some of our Little House books as decor, our beeswax candles, beautiful flowers that my husband bought me, and two homemade quilts. My sweet friend (temple mama as I like to call her), Lori gifted me these quilts. Lori’s loving mother made these and I was gifted these when she passed away. I am honored to hold such precious mementos.

No Birthday Cake? No Problem.

We did not bake a cake, but we did eat our yummy Girl Scout Lemonade cookies. We ordered a whole box full of Lemonades! My oldest has so many food allergies, so even though these don’t have the best clean ingredients, we like to indulge here and there. We also drank hot cocoa!

Birthday Activities

We read books, watched some youtube videos about Laura (thanks PBS), and danced to Pop Goes the Weasel (Pa plays that song on his fiddle for Laura’s 5th birthday)!

Little House on the Prairie Museum

In five years, Eric and I plan on taking a road trip across the U.S.A. This is one of the many stops we will be visiting!

It was a simple but meaningful little birthday party. I love bringing these amazing authors back to life and showing my children that they were normal people. Just like we are.

Our tummies were full of cookies & hot cocoa and our souls were inspired.

Hope you enjoyed our little birthday party! Will you be celebrating Laura this week?

Xoxo, Rudyko
