Thalia’s Baptism: A Special Day to Remember
We are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and turning 8 is a pretty big milestone for us because it marks the age of accountability. At 8, children are old enough to understand right from wrong and are invited to choose to be baptized, which is an important step in following Jesus Christ and becoming a full member of the Church. It's a moment of spiritual growth and commitment, and the baptism and confirmation ceremony is a beautiful way to start on the path of discipleship.
I cannot believe my baby, the one who made me a mama, turned 8 years old. The saying, “The days are long, but the years are short,” run more true to me mama heart as I get older.
On Thalia’s 8th birthday we gifted her a set of personalized pink scriptures with a set of Bible gliders (markers to highlight verses). Although she knows most Bible stories and has been a little disciple, these scriptures is the “official” start to her discipleship.
Baptism Advent
We bought this awesome Baptism Advent from Etsy! We hung it up in our dinning room and we were able to study about baptism every evening leading to her special weekend. Both her daddy and I were able to have one on one study sessions with her. She loved opening the little blue envelope and reading the card. She also officially learned how to search for scripture verses, it was fun seeing her excitement as she searched for scripture verses.
Here is a little fun thing we did, she highlighted all the scriptures we read about baptism in blue to represent water.
Temple Pictures
We were not able to hire a professional photographer for Thalia’s Baptism photos but no worries, mama and her Iphone came to the rescue!
Thalia and I visited our local temple and were able to take photos with my good old faithful Iphone! It was such a windy day, as in Thalia was literally getting blown away! But I managed to take some beautiful pictures of my beautiful daughter.
I absolutely love the picture where she has her arms wide open. A big gust of wind came and she just opened her arms, accepting the wind to her body. It was such a sweet moment and I am just so dang happy I was able to capture that moment.
Baptism Day is here!
We decided to hold her baptism in California because that is where our family lives. We road tripped 10 hours from Utah to California with 3 bins filled with baptism decor!
My inspo for Thalia’s baptism was wild flowers, because she is my wild flower child. I wanted the decor to represent her wild personality and her sweet and loving heart.
Here is the set up for the entry table. I added the baptism programs in a cute little basket, added her favorite church books, and laid out her guest book on the table.
I also created the welcome sign on Canva and got it enlarged and printed out in Office Max.
Here is the main dessert table. We had Nothing Bunt Cakes, Girl Scout Lemonade Cookies, and personalized cookies! We had Luna Grill catered but totally forgot to take a picture of our food table!
As for decor, I used all my trays, table clothes, decor from home. We did buy flowers at Trader Joes the morning of her baptism.
I made the cutest birthday banner! I printed out a picture of her face from newborn to 8 years old, added a birthday hat, and hung on a ribbon. I love seeing how much she has grown throughout the years.
Obsessed with these PERSONALIZED cookies
Baptism Program
It was a beautiful baptism program. Eric spoke on baptism and the Holy Ghost, my mama and MIL said prayers, my best friend sang Goodness of God, Thalia played Teach Me to Walk in the Light on the piano, and her daddy, papi, and great grandfather joined in the circle of confirmation.
Special Moments Before and After the Baptism with our girl
My mama heart was filled with all the feels. I felt so proud that she has chosen to follow the example of Jesus Christ through baptism, and so grateful that I get to be her guide through whatever choices life brings her.
I was also confused…Cause how the heck is my first born baby girl already 8!?!
I absolutely loved just being one on one with her. I helped her change into her baptism jumpsuit and walked her to the baptismal font. Once the baptism was over we went back to the dressing room and changed. We actually finished changing before daddy!! The bishop even mentioned it afterwards, it was funny.
Love this little big girl of mine
I am so blessed to know that families can be together forever. I just love my eternal little family.
Baptism Guests
We are so thankful for everyone that joined us on Thalia’s special day. We deeply love our family and friends and are so grateful for each and everyone of them.
Daddy and Mama are happy but tired!
I could not do any of this without the support of this man right here. My husband is my rock and he always down for anything!
Now on to Disneyland and Universal Studious!
